She does this by carefully balancing the pros and cons in outlining the issue, while connecting to the Kagan hearings and the status of women's freedom in the last 30 years. Each reader can decide for himself or herself the answer to the question: Are Americans freer today than 30 years ago. I think not. but I can see where a woman or a minority may have a different answer to the question. An interesting, thought provoking, and pertinent column. Ms Mercer has another winner.
